Bill Gerhard will show a selection of his patterned and textured works, which symbolize a world in flux. Gerhard is interested in revealing phenomena in the material he uses that are subject to change over the time in which the works are being made. The title of the exhibition, As Above, So Below, alludes to the effects of celestial mechanics, first posited by Isaac Newton, upon terrestrial events. Just as precipitation strikes the surface of wet plaster, a direct correspondence between natural phenomena and materiality is revealed to the viewer in the resulting marks.
